Ratan Naval Tata (28 December 1937 – 9 October 2024) was one of India's most admired industrialists, philanthropists, and visionary business leaders. He served as the Chairman of the Tata Group from 1991 to 2012 and briefly returned as interim chairman in 2016. Under his leadership, the Tata Group expanded globally through landmark acquisitions such as Tetley Tea, Corus Steel, and Jaguar Land Rover, transforming it into one of the world's most respected business conglomerates. A graduate of Cornell University with a degree in Architecture and an alumnus of Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program, Ratan Tata was known for his ethical leadership, humility, and commitment to innovation. He championed projects like the Tata Nano, aiming to make car ownership affordable for Indian families, and later became a mentor and investor in several successful Indian startups. Beyond business, he was deeply committed to philanthropy, with the majority of Tata Group's wealth supporting education, healthcare, scientific research, rural development, and social welfare through Tata Trusts. Despite his immense success, he lived a simple life, was passionate about animal welfare, and earned widespread respect for his integrity and compassion. His contributions to business and society earned him prestigious honors, including the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, and his legacy continues to inspire entrepreneurs and leaders around the world.
